Lewis County Education: Which district had most students enrolled in schools in 2023-24 school year?

Lowville Academy & Central School District had the highest enrollment among Lewis County school districts, welcoming 1,286 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 50% of them were boys, and 50% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were white, making up 90.6% of Lowville Academy & Central School District's total enrollment.

Among the five districts in Lewis County, South Lewis Central School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,056 students, while Beaver River Central School District welcomed 872 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Lowville Academy & Central School District roughly covers schools within Lewis County and has a main office in Lowville.

In the previous school year, Lowville Academy & Central School District also had the highest number of students among Lewis County districts.

As of 2024, New York has roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is better than the national average of one teacher for every 15 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
