CLIFTON: Clifton Park Reopening - Town to Assist Local Fitness Businesses

Reopening sign

Clifton issued the following announcement.

Due to current New York State orders, businesses that specialize in exercise, such as fitness, yoga, dance, and exercise classes have been unable to open their buildings for use.

At the July 20, 2020 regularly scheduled meeting of the Clifton Park Town Board, Supervisor Barrett led a discussion regarding options to assist local businesses affected by the State orders.  The Town Board unanimously decided to allow Clifton Park businesses to operate immediately on outdoor public property.  Clifton Park businesses that would like to hold outdoor classes must receive a permit through the Town’s normal application process.  The permit is free for classes of less than twenty people.  Classes of twenty or more will continue to pay a nominal permit fee.  Classes will be limited to fifty attendees.

The Town Board views this opportunity as an option for the businesses continuing to be negatively affected by NYS shutdown orders, to conduct business.  Supervisor Barrett has led public ZOOM meeting discussions that relate to the importance of bolstering our immune systems, exercise and nutrition.  Allowing people additional opportunities to engage in exercise classes of all types is healthy for the mind as well as the body.

“The Town Board is taking this step to assist local business owners, their employees and residents of Clifton Park with an outlet to engage in fun and important activities,” said Town Supervisor Phil Barrett.  “The classes will be conducted in an outdoor park area in a safe manner.”

Specific areas for this activity are identified in the application.  The permit process also allows the Town to ensure a specific location is reserved for a class to take place.

Businesses interested in applying for a permit can visit the Parks & Recreation section of the Town website at www.cliftonpark.org, visit the office Monday through Friday at Town Hall from 8:00AM to 5:00PM or call 518-371-6667
