Assemblyman Scott Gray has expressed approval for the allocation of $16 million in NY RUSH funding dedicated to the redevelopment of the Watertown Correctional Facility. An additional potential $8 million could be available through an Empire State Development (ESD) matching grant program. The investment aims to transform the facility into workforce housing, anticipating increased demand due to advanced manufacturing jobs linked to Micron and related developments.
“This funding marks an exciting step forward for the North Country,” stated Gray. “Redeveloping this site into workforce housing will position our community to meet the needs of the advanced manufacturing sector and ensure the North Country remains a competitive and thriving region for economic growth.”
The initiative underscores a commitment to strengthening local communities while addressing housing needs for a growing workforce. Assemblyman Gray commended Gov. Hochul and ESD Commissioner Hope Knight for their dedication and looks forward to ongoing collaboration between state and local partners to optimize the impact of this funding.
