Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) released the latest episode of “The Gray Area” video series, discussing relevant topics in New York state. In the video, Gray introduced a new bill aimed at addressing squatting-related incidents across the state. Gray stated, “This week, the Assembly Minority Conference introduced bill A.6894, which redefines what constitutes a tenant, effectively stripping squatters of their tenant status. By criminalizing squatting as trespassing, the bill empowers land and property owners to reclaim their rightful ownership and remove those who refuse to pay due rent. This measure is a direct response to the pervasive issue of squatters plaguing communities across New York state.”
Regarding the New York state budget delay, Gray commented on Governor Hochul's extension of the budget deadline, ensuring the continued operation of the state government. Gray mentioned, “Gov. Hochul’s extension of the budget deadline ensures the continued operation of our state government until next Thursday. We will return next week after Easter to hopefully begin working in earnest on the budget. What we did do this week was pass the first of 10 budget bills, the debt service bill, a crucial step in meeting the state’s financial obligations.”
Gray also highlighted various events and meetings that took place during the week, including engagements with different groups and honoring Vietnam veterans. He mentioned, “This week we welcomed an array of visitors, including the Jefferson-Lewis Board of Realtors and the Rural Resources Fair, which showcased the importance of rural New York. Notably, we honored Vietnam veterans in a ceremony, as well as introduced veterans from across the state in the Assembly Chamber. Additionally, a productive meeting with Commissioner Reardon and Department of Labor leadership addressed vital inquiries from constituents, further strengthening our commitment to serving the community.”
In conclusion, Gray invited viewers to stay tuned for the next episode of “The Gray Area” and expressed his dedication to serving and working with the community. He stated, “Look out for next week’s episode of The Gray Area as we continue to update you on what you care about. We always appreciate the opportunity to serve you and to work with you. Don’t hesitate to call my office staff with questions, comments or concerns—see you soon.”
