Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) extended his congratulations to the Hammond girls’ basketball team and commended the local teams for their remarkable performance in the state title games held on Sunday, March 17. The Hammond Red Devils secured their second consecutive New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls’ Class D basketball championship with a decisive 54-34 victory over Northville at Hudson Valley Community College.
Gray expressed his admiration for the Hammond team, stating, "Congratulations to the Hammond girls’ basketball team on their well-deserved back-to-back triumph." He added, "You all continue to be an inspiration for local athletes." The assemblyman also took a moment to acknowledge the efforts of the Sackets Harbor boys’ basketball team, who narrowly missed out on the Boys’ Class D title to North Warren. "Additionally, I commend Sackets Harbor for their valiant efforts in pursuit of the championship," Gray remarked, "Despite the narrow loss, your resilience and spirit were truly commendable."
Looking ahead, Gray conveyed his anticipation for the return of the teams to the North Country, mentioning, "I look forward to cheering you on and celebrating your achievements as you return to the North Country." He extended his gratitude to all North Country athletes who participated in winter sports and those who advanced to championship competitions. Gray also offered his best wishes to all athletes gearing up for the upcoming spring season, saying, "And best wishes to all athletes who will compete this spring season, best of luck."
