Census Bureau: 5.3% of people in Jefferson County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 117,634 citizens living in Jefferson County in 2021, 94.7% said they were only one race, while 5.3% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Jefferson County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 84.8% or 99,740 individuals. Following them, African American accounted for 5.9% and totaled 6,958 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Jefferson County is 0.7% lower than the state average, which stands at 6%.
