National Police Officer Week
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15th as Peace OfficersMemorial Day and the week that date falls is Police Week. He established this day as an opportunity for lawenforcement to honor their brethren who lost their lives in the line of duty and work towards reducing thenumber of those that may fall in the future. These officers are honored and remembered for making theultimate sacrifice to protect citizens of our great Country.
National Police Week recognizes that law enforcement plays an essential role in safe guarding the rights andfreedoms of citizens while understanding their responsibilities, hazards, sacrifices, and duty to serve andsafeguard life and property against violence and disorder.
I would like to recognize and honor all law enforcement agencies around the Country, including our lawenforcement partners in St. Lawrence County. Police Officers continue to serve vital roles in 2022 protectingand serving communities, and many times working behind the scenes without the knowledge of the generalpublic.
Thank you to all Police Officers and especially to the Deputy Sheriffs of St. Lawrence County for theirremarkable leadership, commitment, and dedication to serving the citizens of St. Lawrence County.
