BIRTHDAY

HON. ELISE M. STEFANIK
of new york
in the house of representatives
Friday, June 4, 2021
Ms. STEFANIK. Madam Speaker, I rise today to honor long-time Willsboro resident, Lucia Emily Doud Wallace, as she celebrates her 106th birthday on June 1, 2021.
Lucia Emily Doud was born in Malone, New York on June 1, 1915, the youngest of six children. She attended the Fine Arts College of Syracuse University where she met her future husband, Edmund Whiting Wallace. The couple were married in 1938 and spent 74 happy years together. They raised two children, Marjorie Alison Wallace, and Dr. Cynthia Day Wallace. The Wallace family has shown tremendous strength of character and perseverance through the challenges that life has thrown their way, including the deaths of Marjorie and Edmund. Through it all, Lucia remained a steadfast light in the lives of those around her.
In addition, Lucia is quite the accomplished artist. She was awarded the National Sculpture Award and studied under Lorado Taft, a renowned American sculptor. Lucia excelled at painting, sculpting, and is even an accredited national flower show judge. In her 106 years of life, Lucia's joy and wisdom have been a constant presence in her community and her artistic talent has brought much happiness to her family and friends.
On behalf of New York's 21st Congressional District, I would like to wish Lucia a very happy 106th birthday. I wish her continued health and happiness in this next year of her life.
