Senator Mark Walczyk has been reappointed as the Ranking Member of the Elections Committee, a role he first assumed in 2023 during his initial year in the New York State Senate. This position will allow him to influence policies concerning electoral integrity and voter access across New York.

“I am honored to serve in this leadership role for the second time; every New Yorker deserves the right to be heard in our elections,” stated Senator Walczyk. He emphasized that participating in elections is both a fundamental right and a privilege for Americans.

The Ranking Member’s duties include providing opposition to proposals from the majority party that are seen as unfavorable. In 2023, Senator Walczyk gained recognition for challenging Democratic election bills, arguing they aimed to change electoral rules to maintain power. That year, he introduced legislation requiring voter identification and permitting voter registration during applications for fishing and hunting licenses. He also supported giving local Boards of Elections more flexibility with early voting station locations.

Theresa Robotham, Commissioner of the Herkimer County Board of Elections, commented on his qualifications: “Senator Walczyk is exceptionally qualified to serve on the Elections Committee, thanks to his proven track record in this role.” She noted his approachability regarding legislative feedback as refreshing.

Tiffany Ladd, Commissioner of the Jefferson County Board of Elections, expressed her support: “I’m excited that Senator Walczyk is returning to Albany to represent us once more. He is truly dedicated to serving the people.”

Walczyk’s focus includes ensuring representation for rural communities within his district. His efforts are considered vital for fair elections in New York. The upcoming legislative session will see him tackling new election-related bills proposed by Democrats next week. Additional committee assignments for Senator Walczyk will be announced soon.
