Today, Senator Mark Walczyk observed Fort Drum Day in the New York State Senate. The annual event honors the contributions of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division stationed at Fort Drum and highlights the relationship between the military and the local community.
“Fort Drum is not just a military base; it is the heartbeat of our community and a cornerstone of our region’s economy. The motto of Fort Drum, ‘Climb to Glory,’ perfectly captures the tenacity of the 10th Mountain Division soldiers who train relentlessly to defend our freedoms around the globe. Their commitment embodies our State motto, Excelsior—ever upward. I am honored to host Fort Drum Day to ensure that my fellow Senators and legislators throughout New York recognize the crucial role that Fort Drum plays in our community and our economy. Today, we celebrate the unwavering dedication of our military personnel and their families,” said Senator Walczyk.
The event included welcoming soldiers in the Senate chamber with interactive displays demonstrating the mission of the 10th Mountain Division. Located in Jefferson County, Fort Drum serves as a key employer in North Country, creating thousands of civilian jobs and supporting many more in surrounding areas, contributing $2.5 billion to the local economy.
“On Fort Drum Day, we stand united in our appreciation for the brave men and women of the 10th Mountain Division. Their courage and commitment inspire us all, and we must continue to support them and their families in every way possible.”
