Assembly Member Scott Gray has announced an upcoming event focused on nuclear energy, safety, and its role in New York’s future. The event is set for July 8, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina in Alexandria Bay, NY.
The gathering aims to provide local and regional officials with a platform to discuss the complexities of nuclear power. Topics will include the economic impact of nuclear facilities, emergency preparedness protocols, technological advancements in nuclear energy, and how nuclear power contributes to the state’s clean energy goals.
“In support of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s announcement today initiating the development of one gigawatt of clean energy through a public-private partnership led by the New York Power Authority, the timing of the Advanced Nuclear 101, an educational forum aimed at introducing local leaders to next-generation nuclear energy technologies, is very appropriate,” Gray stated.
Gray emphasized the importance of being informed about nuclear energy: “As elected officials, it is our responsibility to be fully informed on all matters that impact our communities and few topics are as crucial and misperceived as nuclear energy.” He added that the event aims to “foster a direct dialogue” and provide factual information while addressing concerns or questions regarding future nuclear operations within the region.
The event will feature presentations from experts in nuclear energy and safety. A question-and-answer session will follow for attendees to engage directly with these experts. Attendance is by invitation only for elected officials and stakeholders from Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.
