As the 2026 legislative session opens in Albany, Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) has detailed his priorities for the 116th Assembly District. In his first “Gray Area” update of the year, Gray stated his approach centers on how decisions affect families and businesses within his district.
“Every vote I cast, and every decision I make, comes down to how it impacts the families and businesses right here at home,” said Gray. “We are facing real challenges regarding the cost of living and the stability of our essential services, and my office is prepared to tackle those head-on this year.”
Gray identified affordable and reliable energy as a top concern. He described rising utility bills as an immediate issue for residents rather than an abstract problem. His agenda includes investigating recent rate increases to find relief for taxpayers, supporting advanced nuclear technology for local industry growth and job creation, and continuing advocacy for Project Janus at Fort Drum to maintain regional leadership in energy innovation and military readiness.
On education, Gray emphasized aligning schools with workforce needs. He expressed ongoing support for BOCES programs, SUNY institutions, and community colleges. “Education is workforce development,” Gray stated, highlighting the importance of pathways that help students transition into local jobs.
Gray also addressed instability in health care access across several local institutions. He said he will focus on understanding the causes of these issues to ensure hospitals have a stable foundation to serve North Country communities.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve you both in the district and in Albany,” Gray concluded. “If there is anything my office can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach out.”
