Assemblyman Scott Gray from Watertown has released a new episode of his video series, “The Gray Area,” where he discusses the state’s ongoing budget hearings. These hearings are an essential part of finalizing New York’s budget and focus on securing investments in state parks, outdoor recreation, and community programs.

After the governor presents the executive budget proposal, public hearings are held to examine funding priorities and policy initiatives. This week, discussions began with a joint session addressing the Department of Agriculture and Markets alongside the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The following day was dedicated to energy and environmental conservation topics with input from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), among others.

Gray is actively advocating for fair investment distribution in parks as a ranking Minority member on the Assembly Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development. He highlighted that “the proposed budget calls for a $200 million investment in our state park system,” stressing the need for clarity on which parks will benefit. He emphasized that his district has more state parks than any other in New York.

He also addressed boat launch improvements in Chaumont, Brandy Brook, and Black Lake: “The commissioner acknowledged the need for investment in boat launches,” said Gray.

Additionally, Gray’s office is engaging with advocacy groups like the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the American Red Cross during this budget process.

Gray concluded by encouraging viewers to watch next week’s episode for further updates: “We always appreciate the opportunity to serve you… Don’t hesitate to call my office staff with questions.”
