Assemblyman Scott Gray has released a new episode of his podcast “The Gray Area,” addressing several pressing topics including New York’s ongoing budget stalemate, public safety measures, and the challenges faced by the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP).
Gray stated, “We were supposed to be back in our districts, but due to the budget impasse, we’ve returned to Albany again this week. We’ve now passed eight budget extenders, and we anticipate another on Tuesday. We hope to begin voting on final budget bills next week.”
He expressed support for the governor’s proposed public safety regulations, which include a mask ban, involuntary commitment provisions, and discovery reform. Gray remarked, “These are initiatives we’ve long advocated for, and we’re hopeful they make it into the final budget.”
Gray also addressed concerns surrounding a suggested early prison release program, which he believes could disrupt current conditional release and sentencing systems. “Many inmates already qualify for early release through program completion and plea agreements. Altering this framework could be dangerous and unfair,” he noted.
Regarding the CDPAP, Gray described the ongoing payment issues as “a disastrous rollout” since the state’s move to a single fiscal intermediary, PPL. He stated, “Some providers haven’t been paid at all, others only partially. We urge anyone affected to contact our office—we’re actively working with PPL and the Department of Health to resolve these issues.”
As budget talks continue, Gray noted the limited visitor activity at the Capitol and urged constituents to stay informed. “We’ll keep you updated as negotiations continue and appreciate your trust in our work on your behalf,” he said.
He concluded the episode by encouraging listeners to tune in for the following week’s update and to reach out with any questions. “Look out for next week’s episode of The Gray Area as we continue to update you on what you care about. We always appreciate the opportunity to serve you and to work with you. Don’t hesitate to call my office staff with questions, comments or concerns—see you soon.”
