Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush has expressed his disappointment following Governor Kathy Hochul’s veto of a transparency bill aimed at increasing public disclosure in state spending. The legislation, identified as A.10281, had previously passed unanimously in both the Assembly and Senate. It was intended to mandate greater transparency regarding emergency contacts and expenditures that bypass normal oversight procedures.

Blankenbush commented on the veto, stating: “I am deeply disappointed in the governor’s decision to veto such a vital piece of legislation. New Yorkers deserve to know where their tax dollars are being spent, and without public disclosure, taxpayers can’t be sure their dollars are being spent wisely.” He further emphasized his commitment to bipartisan efforts for reform, adding, “I will continue to work across the aisle to push for important reform and ensure taxpayers know where their money is being spent. The only way the people can have faith in their government is through full transparency.”

The bill’s rejection has raised concerns about accountability in state spending among its proponents.
