In the latest episode of “The Gray Area,” Assemblyman Scott Gray previews an upcoming forum titled “Advanced Nuclear 101.” The event is scheduled for July 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina in Alexandria Bay.
Gray emphasized the potential of advanced nuclear technology, stating, “Advanced nuclear technology has the potential to be a game-changer in how we generate clean, reliable energy.” He highlighted this as an opportunity to explore future possibilities for energy, jobs, and economic growth in the North Country.
The forum will gather leaders from various sectors including energy, research, and labor to discuss advanced nuclear technology’s role in New York state’s energy reliability, economic development, and decarbonization efforts. “New York is taking a serious look at nuclear energy again, and the North Country needs to have a seat at that table—especially with Fort Drum potentially in the mix for a future site deployment,” Gray noted. He also addressed safety concerns by asserting that “today’s advanced nuclear technology is safer than ever before.”
Local elected officials, labor representatives, government bodies from Jefferson and St. Lawrence County, Fort Drum stakeholders, Advocate Drum, Development Authority of the North Country, and Farm Bureau board members are invited to attend. Discussions will cover economic impact, public safety, and deployment timelines for nuclear energy development in New York. This marks the initial step towards broader community engagement on these topics.
Gray concluded with appreciation for his constituents: “As always, it’s an honor and a privilege to serve you. I look forward to the next edition of ‘The Gray Area’ and seeing you in the district.”
Officials interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by July 7, 2025, to Chief of Staff James Uhlinger via email at uhlingerj@nyassembly.gov.
