Assemblyman Scott Gray from Watertown has released a new episode of his video series, “The Gray Area.” In this installment, Gray discusses the cancellation of the Air Products hydrogen plant project in Massena and the ongoing work stoppages among correctional officers in New York state.
Gray attributes the cancellation of the $650 million green hydrogen plant to federal tax credit policies that do not recognize hydro as renewable energy, despite New York state’s classification. He also points out that New York’s lack of a cap-and-invest policy poses challenges for such projects. Additionally, corporate changes at Air Products have led to the decision to cancel several projects. “This is unfortunate news for Massena, where the project was well underway. We will continue working to find a viable solution for the site,” Gray stated.
Addressing the issue of work stoppages among correctional officers, Gray emphasized that it is not a strike but a response to unsafe policies imposed unilaterally. The officers’ main concerns revolve around the HALT Act, which limits disciplinary procedures and potentially endangers officers, civilians, and inmates. “This is not a strike. These officers are fighting against unsafe policies that have been imposed on them unilaterally,” he explained.
Gray highlighted various advocacy efforts taking place at Albany with visits from organizations such as the New York State Academy of Family Physicians and others. “In this week’s episode, I lay out the real issues and real solutions,” said Gray.
He concluded by inviting viewers to watch next week’s episode for more updates and encouraged constituents to reach out with any questions or concerns.
