Assemblyman Scott Gray, representing the 116th Assembly District in New York, recently spoke with Assembly Radio-TV Producer Ted Flint to discuss pressing issues concerning his district and the state. During the interview, Gray touched upon a key Homeland Security investigation that unfolded in Jefferson County. The operation led to the temporary detainment of a family in Texas amid a probe into suspected pornography-related crimes. The family has been released and returned to their community, cleared of involvement. Gray underscored the law enforcement’s professionalism during the operation and pointed out emerging concerns about human trafficking and criminal activities along the northern border.
Additionally, Gray commented on the Assembly Health Committee’s decision to withdraw a bill aimed at banning flavored nicotine products such as ZYN. The proposed legislation encountered strong opposition from various business interests, who argued that a ban could drive sales to unregulated markets. Bipartisan disagreement led to the bill being pulled from consideration.
Lastly, in discussing the state budget, Gray remarked on the current impasse in New York’s budget proceedings. He voiced criticism regarding the economic strategies in Albany and highlighted concerns with the budgetary stalemate with Tax Day on the horizon.
